An Introduction to Integrating Computer Science into ELA: A Tale of Two Literacies
Time limit: 180 days
Full course description
This professional development course equips English Language Arts (ELA) teachers with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to integrate computational thinking (CT) and computer science (CS) principles into their curriculum. Participants will explore PrADDA, a computational thinking framework to apply CT concepts effectively in ELA contexts. The course will deepen understanding of computing and CS fundamentals and broaden knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and computational thinking and their role in social and academic settings. Participants will also discuss equity and justice in CS applications, developing strategies to ensure inclusive and just learning experiences. Through collaborative activities, research analysis, and hands-on applications, teachers will gain the tools to create dynamic, interdisciplinary ELA lessons that foster critical thinking and digital literacy.
